Happy (belated) New Year everyone! I’ve decided to spark the blog back up, after taking a little hiatus from everything during the Fall. After finishing the Bimbler’s Bluff 50k in October (never wrote a race report for that one… maybe I still will) I took a nice break that included planting myself firmly on the couch, catching up on “The Walking Dead” while wearing a plastic pumpkin full of Halloween candy as a feed bag.
I’m happy to report that I was able to snap myself out of my snickers-induced haze and finally got my ass back out and running. Thank. God. I am not an overly pleasant person when I go too long without running. And now that I’m back in the swing of things, I’m REALLY looking forward to what 2013 has to bring.
For me, one of the most important things is to start the new year on a positive note. This usually means something active with my friends, and this year was no exception. New Year’s Day started on a great note, with a snowy mountain bike ride at Bluff Point with a really fun group of friends. I followed the boys through the trails and had a blast!

Big thanks to Kelly for introducing me to this craziness… That’s what friends are for! 🙂 |
After the ride it was time to switch gears and get ready for the annual New Year’s Day run and ocean plunge. I’ve been starting the new year with this run and chilly dip for a number of years now, and love every second of it! We headed to Esker Point to get ready and run the 3-ish miles to downtown Mystic for the start of the run. This event is so much fun, for many reasons. There is a lot of booze, costumes, and old friends catching up over a sport we all love. Most importantly? It is NOT, repeat after me,NOT a race. Everyone runs together, waits for each other, and has an absolute blast. And, of course… there is the end of the run, where (almost) everyone charges into the water for a little January dip. The running was great, and in we went for the New Year’s dunk. It was FREEZING! But also equal parts fun, exhilarating, and totally crazy. It was a great start to the day, and the year. I hope everyone out there chose a memorable way to start your new year on the right foot. And if you want a do-over? Go ahead and take one. Start the year off on a note that sets the tone for the days and months to come. And don’t forget to smile and have fun.

On the beach post-dip. I immediately put my hat and mittens back on. Obviously never took the tutu off. |
I’m looking forward to a great year ahead, and hopefully sharing some good times and good stories with all of you! Happy, Happy 2013!! Cheers!!!!
