Tomorrow we head to Vermont for the Vermont 50, on Sunday September 29. This is, by far, my favorite event!! This year is the 20th anniversary of the 50, and will be my 6th year running. This race has such a great, friendly vibe…. it is huge, with hundreds of mountain bikers and runners heading off together and sharing the trails, but it still somehow manages to maintain a family feeling.
I am definitely not as prepared as I would like to be (most definitely my own fault!!). My failed attempt at the Hampshire 100k took a lot out of me (physically and, mostly, mentally). My training motivation packed up and shipped off, leaving me slugging through some pretty crappy training for the past few weeks. My blogging motivation went along for the ride too, and I am behind on some race reports I have wanted to write, but just haven’t made the time to.
But all of that doesn’t matter, because I will be hitting the starting line this Sunday for another 50 mile adventure through the woods of Vermont. This year Anthony will be biking as well, so it should be lots of fun! The weather forecast is perfect, and I’m (finally!) getting excited. For everyone out there who is just starting out in running…. if you hit a rough patch, don’t worry, and don’t give up! Even we crazies who have been running for a good long time and do these nuts-o races have times when a jog around the block feels like a chore. It will pass 🙂
Good luck to all who are racing this weekend, in Vermont and wherever you may be!! Don’t forget to smile, laugh, and HAVE FUN!!! This life is a gift… fill it with good people and good things, and enjoy every second of it! 🙂
Good luck Carly!
